Bike Report Day 1, Part 4: P-Dub, Dumb Luck

Meet Patrick, aka P-Dub, Man of Mystery

After my ten seconds of fame at the Hoosier Gym, we stopped for gas and headed to our final destination, our hotel in Columbus, Indiana. We were maybe a mile from the gas station, doing about 70 mph on a four lane road with no cars around us. I am riding at the back of the pack when I noticed something falls out of Pats pocket. Pat noticed something fell out as well. I quickly moved out of the objects way not knowing what it was. As I quickly drove past it, I can tell it's Pat's MP3 player doing multiple cartwheels down the highway.

Matt saw it tool. We both pulled over to the narrow shoulder. I looked back and saw a car coming. I started running down the road in the middle of the lane, full gear on, to get the player before the car did. The driver of the car must have thought I was a mad man. Luckily, the car switched lanes.

Once I got the player, I realized I was really sore. You see, riding a bike for over 300 miles puts a little wear and tear on the legs. They felt like butter and were a little wobbly but I kept my eye on the prize. Just like a good sports movie.

Low and behold, the unit worked! It takes a lickin and keeps on tickin. We were all impressed.

Back down our final stretch of road, we were out in the middle of nowhere with no one around us. It was this long flat stretch of road with nothing but farm fields, mostly corn. We drove fast but at a pace that we were use to. The sun was going down. It gave me a moment to look back on. Almost like a moment of Zen.

I realized how lucky I am to have loving and supportive family. To first let me buy a motorcycle and then let me go out for a weekend trip with the guys. Then I just took in all the natural surroundings around me. Off behind the fields were miniature mountains covered by the greenest trees. With the sun going down, it was a perfect way to end the day.

As we got closer to the hotel, the roads became more curvy. Long sweeping roads that were smooth. I am hoping that it would be a preview for what was to come for the next day. We arrived at the hotel and 9:00 Eastern time.
