Not Your Fathers NPR

National Public Radio Never Sounded So Good

Over the weekend, my sister and I somehow got on the subject on TV and radio shows. She brought up a particular show on National Public Radio but that show is not important to this topic. Now, I have to admit. I use to listen to NPR when I had longer commutes in the car. My listening consisted of mostly news updates.

So at work, where I have free reign to the internet, I decided to pick up the live stream for NPR. I started with the 24 hour program stream. Listening via my headphones, I realized that I was listening to a loop of news. It was two in the afternoon and I hear, "this is your morning edition news". Although some stories are in depth and good, I don't need to hear anymore on high formaldehyde levels found in the trailers that were provided by FEMA to the Katrina victims.

So I go back to NPR site. I have the options to hear particular news stories. Naw, I done with that. Hmm, podcasts for music? I turn to the jazz section. Bingo! I have a winner. I listen to that for a while but then I want more.

I found that NPR is now playing mainstream rock. It consists of live concerts as well as interviews. This afternoon, I listened to the Raconteurs live in concert and uninterrupted. Well, except my co-workers stopping by.

Ahh life is good again. The music helps me focus on my dreaded reports. I can also give the mp3 players a rest as well. Thank you Garrison Keillor for Prairie Home Companion but I will now be setting up a pod cast for All Songs Considered.
