Maintenance Day

Meet Your Host.... John aka Bomber

On Saturday, I went to a bike maintenance meet up hosted by a John from our bike group, Sport-Touring.net.. My bike did not need any work but I went to learn some basics from the group. My first lesson…. When replacing a clutch and someone hands you the directions to read, make sure you read EVERYTHING, including what is in the parentheses.

My next lesson…There is a difference between inch-pounds and foot-pounds in torque. I told the wrencher, Nate (see picture below) the number that it had to be adjusted too not knowing it was inches and I gave him foot pressure. When that happens, POP goes the head of a screw. Luckily John was able to modify another screw. Good learning lesson indeed. Hey, I never took a shop class in my life… and it shows.
Nate , owner and noob mechanic, much like myself.
