This is not the Gurnee store but you get the idea....This past weekend, the new Lowe's in Gurnee quietly opened. I say quiely because there was a small write in the paper about opening weekend. Plus as you pull into the parking lot, they still had old signs that stated "Opening Soon".
I admit that I was excited for a new hardware store I have always heard good things about Lowes. I was not sure what to expect but I had high expectations.
As I walked into the store, and went down the main front aisle, it quickly came to me. This is the same exact layout as the other local Home Depots. Where Home Depot's primary color is Orange, Lowes is dark blue. I couldn't believe it, it was almost identical. To me, the only thing that stood out was that the power tools were located in the front of the store. I am guessing for better visibility and security reasons.
I think Lowe's will be good for the local competition (Mendards, ACE, Home Depot). If you are looking for a particular product, Lowe's will give you the vendors that the other don't. This also gives you the alternative for bargain hunting. At the end of the day, it is what it is, a home improvement center, not Disney World.
