"Let's Pull the Carbs Off"

Meet My Friend, Mr Carb.

One of the reasons that I started this particular blog was to keep me motivated on working on the spare bike. As well as to document my progress on the project bike.

A few weeks ago, I pulled the carburetors off the NightHawk. They came off easier than I thought they would. This may be due to my previous experience with working on carbs from my other bikes.

I was surprised when I pulled one of the carbs apart. They were on the cleaner side. There was no gas in the carbs what so ever. (that is a good thing) Since the gas tank was mostly full of rotten gas, I figured the carbs were just as bad. The previous owner must have drained the carbs but not the tank.

The tank on the other hand is not looking good. After sitting for a few weeks with rubbing alcohol in it, after a fw good shakes, more crap came out of the tank. I can easily see that the tank is still on the rusty side.

I might take Bandit Brother Matt's advice. After the carbs are cleaned and mounted back on, I might attached a rigged up gas tank to see if the bike starts or not. I still need to determine what else needs to be replaced besides tires and the chain. If I think I have money to spend, I might buy a decent tank, that is rust free.
